Please contact us if you are able to VOLUNTEER for Hearing, Vision, and Scoliosis Screenings. Volunteers play a very important part in screening our students for possible referral to a physician. Your help in KINDERGARTEN through GRADE 12 is appreciated.

* Adolescents require a minimum of 8 HOURS OF SLEEP per night. Some researchers believe that 9 hours, 23 minutes is optimal for peak performance the next day.

* Remind your children to practice GOOD HYGIENE, i.e. daily bathing, brushing teeth, combing hair, and especially washing hands.

* Well-nourished children do better in school, especially if they have a good BREAKFAST low in sugar.

* PHYSICAL ACTIVITY for a minimum of 15-20 minutes per day is also very important. Walking is great...just get them moving!

*LIFE-THREATENING HEALTH CONDITIONS

A new law has been enacted in Washington State that defines a life-threatening condition as a “health condition that will put the child in danger of death during the school day if a medication or treatment order and a nursing plan are not in place.” The law now requires all school children with life-threatening conditions (such as severe bee sting or food allergies, severe asthma, unstable diabetes, severe seizures, etc.) to have medication or treatment orders and a nursing plan in place before they are allowed to attend school.

*WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME-----SOME GUIDELINES

If you child is running a fever of 100 or more If your child is experiencing nausea and vomiting If your child has something that is contagious to others If you feel your child is feeling so poorly that he/she will not be able to function properly.

*TO HELP US CONTACT YOU IN AN EMERGENCY

Please make sure you provide any changes in emergency contact names, phone numbers, address, or doctor’s name so we can maintain current information on file. It is important that we are able to reach you or someone in your stead in case of an emergency of if your child becomes ill at school.

Please call Susan M. Day, RN, District Nurse if you have any questions. ******
